Lots of macro and critters, muck-diving, turtles, great visibility. Apo Island with its walls, beautiful corals and schools of fish is a short boat ride away. Dauin is the perfect match after Malapascua.

Dauin is the muck diving capital of the Philippines. Located just south of Dumaguete in Negros Oriental, its volcanic black sand slopes are home to some of the rarest and most photogenic marine life in the country. Frogfish, blue-ringed octopus, flamboyant cuttlefish, mimic octopus, and countless nudibranch species make this a macro photographer's dream.

Most diving is done as easy shore dives straight off the beach, with depths from 5 to 25 metres. The calm conditions and gentle slopes also make Dauin an excellent spot for dive training.

Just a short boat ride away, Apo Island is a marine sanctuary with healthy coral gardens and resident green sea turtles. The combination of Dauin's muck diving and Apo Island's reef diving makes this one of the most diverse dive destinations in the Visayas.

Best time to visit: year-round, though visibility is typically best from March to June. Water temperature stays between 26-30 degrees Celsius.
